1. Introduction

Couplet ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Couplet mobile application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

By using Couplet, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (hashed and never stored in plain text). If you use social sign-in (Google or Apple), we receive your name and email from that provider.

Profile Information

You may optionally provide your display name, birthday, anniversary date, and a profile photo.

User Content

Content you create within the app, including calendar events, date ideas, photos, album titles, and comments. This content is shared with your linked partner within the app.

Device Information

We collect device type, operating system version, and a unique device identifier solely for push notification delivery and crash reporting.

Push Notification Tokens

If you enable push notifications, we store your device's push token to deliver timely reminders and partner activity notifications.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • To create and manage your account and couple connection
  • To sync shared calendars, date ideas, and photo galleries between partners
  • To send push notifications for event reminders and partner activity
  • To respond to customer support requests
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues and abuse

4. Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure, hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) with servers in the United States. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Row-Level Security (RLS) policies ensuring users can only access their own couple's data
  • Encrypted session tokens stored in your device's secure enclave (Expo SecureStore)
  • HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit
  • Hashed passwords — we never store or have access to your plain-text password
  • Storage bucket restrictions: MIME-type validation and file size limits

5. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:

  • With your partner: Content you create (events, photos, date ideas) is visible to your linked partner within the app. This is the core purpose of the Service.
  • Service providers: We use third-party services (Supabase, AWS, Expo) for hosting, storage, and notification delivery. These providers process data on our behalf under strict contractual obligations.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority.

We do not serve advertisements or share data with ad networks.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal data
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent for optional data processing (e.g., push notifications)

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records.

Photos and content shared within a couple may be retained in your partner's account until they also delete their account or remove the content.

8. Children's Privacy

Couplet is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

9. International Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where our servers are located. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy within the app and updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
